Lt. Governor Herbert Domacasse gives God the credit for his successful life in the private sector of banking and in his role as the governor and leader of our Island. Governor Domacasse’s message was loud and clear as he gave the sermon to the members, friends, and visitors of the International Bible Church of Bonaire this past Sunday morning in the local high school auditorium where the church is now meeting for a season until they can construct a new church across from the Maduro and Curiel Bank in Hato near the traffic circle.
Governor Domacasse’s take on leadership is based on the Bible story of Jesus as “You must be a servant first” if you expect to be successful in any leadership capacity. He says he never asked for the job of Governor, but accepted it from those who contacted him about the position after they agreed that he could put Christ first in his role as Governor of Bonaire. Great success has certainly followed him in his tenure as the leader of the island for his term in office and the one year extension that was granted him after his 60th birthday. The island certainly has been blessed by many changes that are now taking place in the government and the issues that must be addressed prior to becoming a municipality of Holland.
Governor Domacasse says you must be prepared to loose or as he puts it, “choose to loose ——– to God in order to be a winner”. God has certainly directed his life through out these most difficult times in the many changes that are now affecting our Island Government and will have its effect for many years to come as another chapter is written in our island that closely resembles the slogan “Divers Paradise”.
We must take our prime assets, our children, and educate them and develop them into our future leaders. Our children should be our number one focus and we should teach them to be extremely aware that all are created for a purpose and if we do God’s will in our lives, then we will be the winner. Governor Domacasse also has programs he has asked help on. One being assistance with the down and out in prisons. Some of the ministers of the island are heading this project and he says we need prayer and submission to God’s will to take the island and its problems into the next phase of island life and into the next century.
Governor Domacasse is truly a most humble man and has asked all to pray for unity of the island as he now is in his final months of his term, which he says he will turn over the three keys to the island (his government home, his government automobile, and his government office space) on October 24th of this year. As this reporter left the church, many comments on the governor’s character, his ability to lead, and his wonderful way of approaching leadership and life were expressed by many in the congregation.
